The morning competition began with a new republican best achievement for young people. RPI student Arturs Sliede, starting out of competition, pushed the shot put (6 kg) 30 cm further than the previous achievement. The result of the shot put was 16.56 m . Ināra Elhmane (Ogre) won the high jump with 1.55 m. M. Brengule (Valka). T. Taškina (Cēsis) and H. Ringa (Proletār. raj.) made 1.50 m. 

The evening competition results were badly affected by rain. Youth 100 m E. Švāns* (Mask. district) 11.5; G. Rasiņš (Jēkabp.) 11.5; shot put E. Kārkliņš (Liep.) 15.16; P. Rasimovičs (Ľeņina district) 13.67; distance G. Rasiņš 6.43; G. Zeilāns (Cēsis) 6.38; youth 100 m A. Ašenkampe (Saldus) 13.1; S. Jakše (Liep.) 13.2; discus M. Maļevska (Mask. district) 36.58; S. Riekstiņa (Kuld.) 35.42. 

The best in the 400 m heats were U. Varulis (Jūrm.) 53.2; V. Zondaka (Balvi) 1:00.5.,5.
