The Dynamo All-Union Weightlifting Championship ended in Riga on Saturday. On the last day of the competition, the athletes pleased with their excellent results.
In the first heavyweight, the former European champion from Moscow, Valerijs Jakubovskis, reached an incredible total in the triathlon (575 kg), and also set a new world record in the snatch - 206.5 kg. In this weight category, the third place was taken by Valentīns Bročs from Riga (532.5 kg), who reached a new Latvian record in the snatch (197.5 kg). The fourth place was also taken by Kārlis Pumpuriņš from Riga (530 kg).
In the second heavyweight category, Riga native Arturs Sliede had a great start this time. In the triathlon, he achieved a new Latvian record with a world-class result of 565 kg (197.5 + 157.5 + 210). In addition, Arturs set new republic records in the snatch and clean and jerk. He lost to V. Kuzmin (KPFSR) by 5 kg in the triathlon and remained in 2nd place.
The day before, Riga resident Vilis Pērkons became the dynamic All-Union champion in the light heavyweight category, reaching a new record for his association in the triathlon of 507.5 kg. In the welterweight category, Daugavpils resident V. Petrovs took 2nd place (427.5 kg), while Riga resident B. Bagaievs was third (405 kg). It should be noted that in these competitions, four Riga residents fulfilled the master of sports norm for the first time: in the lightweight category - J. Kļaviņš (second place with 385 kg), in the light heavyweight category - A. Titarenko and S. Solomonovs, and in the 1st heavyweight category - V. Kirejevs.
