A group of Soviet weightlifters, including two Rigans — V. Anikins and A. Sliede — visited Beirut. The athletes participated in weightlifting propaganda events and trained with Lebanese athletes.

This trip was successful for Artūrs Sliede: in the second heavyweight category, he reached 210 kg in the press. This result is a new Latvian record .
