Born in Riga
JULY 5, 1943
Arturs began his schooling at Riga Secondary School No. 45, where he focused on volleyball. In 1959, he became the USSR boys' champion as part of the Latvian sixteen-year-old national team. In 1959 and 1960, he won the Baltic Republics Cup in volleyball. Participant of the All-Union School Spartakiad in Minsk and Baku.
In 1959, while continuing his studies at Riga Secondary School No. 2, Arturs became interested in shot put. In 1961, for excellent academic performance (only two "fours"), exemplary behavior and active participation in community service, he graduated from grade 12 with a silver medal . He received his higher education at Riga Polytechnic Institute (RPI), graduating in 1969 from the Faculty of Automatics and Computing.
Between 1965 and 1998, Arturs was the Latvian champion in both shot put, weightlifting, and powerlifting for seniors. Similar to Arturs' unfinished autobiography "My Sports Life Morning, Day and Evening", this website is also divided into the following 3 parts:
