A Record-holder without a shoe…

For several days now, the All-Union «Dinamo» weightlifting championships have been taking place in Riga. However, at first, no brilliant records have been set. Only yesterday around noon, when the heavyweights began their fights, excellent results were already recorded in the first competition. The young and athletic Muscovite V. Yakubovsky «took» the world record weight. In the first heavyweight press, he failed to lift 205 kg. However, Yakubovsky asked to put the world record weight on the bar — 206.5 kg. The previous world and USSR record holder in the press was the Estonian strongman J. Talts. Applause rang out in the «Dinamo» sports hall. Yakubovsky became the owner of the world and USSR record. He outweighed the bar, he outweighed the athlete. In order to be the first heavyweight norm, he still had to drop one shoe. 

The Rigans were also awarded. 

At the beginning of the championship, A. Dinnikovs pleased everyone by setting a new republican and All-Union "Dinamo" record in the snatch in the light lightweight category - 115.5 kg. With 370 kg in the triathlon, Dinnikovs won in his weight category. 

In the light heavyweight category, V. Pērkons won and set a new All-Union «Dinamo» record, lifting 507.5 kg in the triathlon. G. Ivančenko did not compete in the middleweight category. The winner was Muscovite V. Ryženkov. Vlnš lifted 500 kg in three attempts and is now the fourth member of the 500 kg club in this category. In the middleweight category, B. Pavlovs and V. Sharys have also reached 500 kg, apart from Ivančenko.

Yesterday was a beautiful end to the competition. In the first heavyweight category, V. Jakubovskis could boast of an excellent result in the triathlon - 575 kg. In the second heavyweight category, V. Kuzmins (KPFSR) won with 570 kg, but Latvian record holder Artūrs Sliede won second place with 565 kg. In the triathlon, he set an excellent republican record: Sliede also improved his previous records in the press - 197.5 and in the snatch - 157.5 kg.  In the team classification, our republic's Dynamos won.
