This fall, the presidium of the republican weightlifting federation approved Artūrs Sliedis as a candidate for the 4th Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in the second heavyweight category and set him the task of reaching 405 kg in the triathlon later this year.

Last Saturday, at the Leningrad and Riga student friendship competitions, A. Sliede proved that the planned result was modest. The 22-year-old and 115 kg lifter lifted 135, snatched 122.5, jerked 160 and collected 417.5 kg in the triathlon, fulfilling the first sports class norm for the first time.  This does not happen every year in the second heavyweight category.

In the other weight categories, the best results were achieved by V. Zukermans (L) in the lightweight category with 290, V. Tarasovs (R) - 280: in the lightweight category G. Saveļjevs (L) - 342.5; in the welterweight category V. Nazarovs (L) - 337.5; in the middleweight category S. Sbitņevs (L) - 375 and in the light heavyweight category N. Nesterovs (L) - 365 kg.

The guests won the team battle with a score of 13:15.
