At the end of the year, 7 new Latvian records were set in the republic's weightlifting competitions.
Four of them were achieved by Aleksandrs Dinnikov, a candidate for the USSR national team. In the light-flyweight category, he broke all possible records: in the clean and jerk - 118 kg, in the snatch - 113 kg, in the clean and jerk - 140 kg, and in the triathlon - 365 kg.
Arturs Sliede, who is now the second athlete in our republic to join the "five hundred kilogram club", was also pleased. In the second heavyweight category, he lifted 510 kg (167.5 + 142.5 + 200) in the triathlon. This is a new Latvian record. In addition, he also achieved new records in the snatch (143) and clean and jerk (200 kg).
The past year has been truly successful for Latvian weightlifters - 5 world, 5 USSR and 60 republic records! Most of them are dynamic players, students of coach M. Fraifelds, who had included the latest methodological insights and achievements in sports science in their preparation plans.
