GDR AND POLAND

The Latvian weightlifting team left for Berlin, the capital of the German Democratic Republic, on Tuesday to compete with the best athletes of this country, who are among the strongest in the world. Our team includes all the most outstanding weightlifters, led by the world ex-record holder Kārlis Pumpuriņš, Valentīnas Bročas and Artūrs Sliede . It is with these three athletes that our coaches have the greatest hopes, expecting results in the triathlon that would exceed the international class limit — 500 kg. So far, our athletes have not succeeded, although several have been close to the goal.
