Recently, the weightlifters of the republic have emerged as the vanguard of dynamic people. At the end of last year, they pleased with excellent results - Gennady Ivanchenko and Karlis Pumpuriņš set new world records. In addition, it should be noted that Pumpuriņš and Arturs Sliede were the first from our republic to join the “500-kilogram club”.
Now the Riga Dynamo strongmen have surprised our sports community with new outstanding successes achieved at the Dinamo All-Union Competition in Feodosia:
11 NEW LATVIA RECORDS WERE SET, FIVE OF RIGA ATHLETES BECAME «DINAMO» ALL-ROUND CHAMPIONS IN THE TRISCIENCE. IN ADDITION, 19 MEDALS WERE AWARDED FOR SUCCESS IN INDIVIDUAL EVENTS.
These are achievements for which the Merited Coach of the USSR Mikhail Freifeld has great merit.
Latvian records were achieved by: Aleksandrs Diņnikovs in the light lightweight category - in the clean and jerk (142.5 kg) and the clean and jerk (367.5 kg), Mihails Rauhmans in the light lightweight category - in the clean and jerk (130 kg), Anatolijs Majasins in the welterweight category - in the clean and jerk (146 kg) and the clean and jerk (432.5 kg). Valentīns Bročs in the first heavyweight category - in the clean and jerk (175 kg), clean and jerk (197.5 kg) and the clean and jerk (507.5 kg), Arturs Sliede in the heavy heavyweight category - in the clean and jerk (177.5 kg), snatch (147.5 kg) and the clean and jerk (522.5 kg) .
Of these athletes, Dinnikov, Majasin, and Brochs became champions of their association in the triathlon, and Brochs is the third strongman in our republic to exceed the 500 kg mark.
Two more Riga residents became Dinamo champions in the triathlon: in the middleweight category -- Vladimirs Rogačovs (425 kg), who competed in place of the ill Ivanchenko and became a master of sports in these competitions, and in the light heavyweight category -- Vilis Pērkons (487.5 kg).
We must now await with interest the USSR championships, in which about ten of our athletes will compete.
