First Time — 540 kg!

Our republic's record holder in the second heavyweight category, Artūrs Sliede, has long been a weightlifter "in the 500kg club". His republican record in triathlon was 522.5 kg. On Sunday, RPI post-pull athlete Artūrs Sliede set a completely different number in the Latvian record list - 540 kg!

First, in the clean and jerk, he beat his previous record by 8.5 kg and lifted 186 kg.  The record in the snatch was missed - the result was 150 kg. To improve his record in the triathlon, he had to lift "only" 190 kg in the clean and jerk, but he lifted 195 kg in his first attempt. With his first attempt, he also lifted 205 kg and improved his Latvian record in the clean and jerk by 2 kg.  The best weightlifters will compete in Dnepropetrovsk in December at the USSR Cup. With this result, which is the fourth best in the Soviet Union this year, our master hopes to win a bronze medal. 

The other dynamic Vilis Pērkons did not break the record in the first heavyweight, although he achieved an excellent result in the triathlon - 490 kg.
