Weightlifters showered with records and medals The 7th All-Union «Dynamo» Spartakiad weightlifting competition took place in Lugansk. The weightlifters of our republic have achieved outstanding success - they have one world and also a USSR record, four All-Union «Dynamo» records and 13 republic records. Of the 108 medals won, 27 went to Riga residents. 


IN THE LIGHTWEIGHT WEIGHT, KARLIS PUMPURIņŠ BECAME THE CHAMPION OF THE ASSOCIATION'S SPARTAKIADE - 492.5 kg. THIS RESULT IS 22.5 kg BETTER THAN THE REPUBLIC RECORD. IN A HURRY, KARLIS REACHED 178 kg. THE PREVIOUS WORLD RECORD (177.5 kg) BELONGED TO THE OLYMPIC CHAMPION OF FINLAND, KARLO KANGASNIEMI. 


Pumpuriņš also showed his best results in the snatch (140 kg) and clean and jerk (175 kg). The silver medal in the light heavyweight category was won by another Riga Dinamo representative, Vilis Pērkons, with a lift of 480 kg. 


In the first heavyweight category, Valentīns Bročs became the bronze medalist in the triathlon — 485 kg. This amount exceeds the republican record by 10 kg. His results in the bench press (170 kg) and clean and jerk (115 kg) are also new Latvian records. 


In the second heavyweight category, Arturs Sliede earned a silver medal — 482.5 kg. In the clean and jerk, he set a new republican record — 195 kg, for which he also received a small gold medal .


In the lightweight category, our Aleksandrs Dinnikovs became the champion — 337.5 kg. He improved his republican record by 5 kg. In the welterweight category, 38-year-old Riga native Anatoly Majasins won a silver medal — 427.5 kg. He also improved his Latvian record set in 1963 by 5 kg. After a longer break, Gennady Ivanchenko competed again in the middleweight category. He became the winner in all disciplines and in the triathlon — 475 kg. Four republican records and four All-Union «Dinamo» best achievements.
