The final competition of the 8th republican Spartakiad in weightlifting ended yesterday in Rezekne , in which the heaviest weight athletes in the triathlon were repeatedly close to the 500 kg mark. Exactly 500 kg in the light heavyweight category was lifted by Sergejs Poltarackis from Liepaja. Who reached 175 kg in the snatch, 142.5 kg in the clean and jerk, and 182.5 in the clean and jerk. His victory could only be threatened by record holder Kārlis Pumpuriņš , who this time was preparing a new attack on the record, but was left without a medal because he did not lift the starting weight.

Good results were also seen in the 2nd heavyweight, where the dynamic Arturs Sliede became the champion with 497.5 kg, while the silver medal was won by G. Kalns («Daugava») - 490 kg. Sliede's total result would have been over 500 kilograms, but in the snatch he reached only 142.5 kg. Here Kalns set a new republican record in his second attempt - 150.5 kg. Ten minutes later, the champion Sliede snatched 153 kg in his fourth record-breaking attempt and surpassed Kalns's newly achieved record.

In the first heavyweight category, the gold medal was won by V. Pērkons from Dynamo - 495 kg. In the welterweight category, the best was the veteran A. Majasins («Dinamo») - 422.5 kg. The new champion in the middleweight category, V. Dogačev from Dynamo, had a weaker result - 420 kg. 

In the Spartakiad team rankings, Dinamo was the convincing winner in Group 1, winning six

gold medals. The second group was won by weightlifters from the Riga district.
