Three Records in Weightlifting

For twelve years, the republican record of our outstanding weightlifter V. Stepanov, the owner of the silver medal of the Melbourne Olympics, in the middleweight triathlon, had been unbeaten. In the heavyweight category, a new Latvian record in the clean and jerk (191.5 kg) was set by the dynamic Arturs Sliede , who, like the famous Estonian athlete Jans Taits, retrained from an athlete to a weightlifter; Specialists believe that Sliede will soon reach the famous 500 kg mark in the triathlon.
