The USSR Cup in weightlifting has ended in Dnepropetrovsk. Once again, a new phenomenal world record in the triathlon was set by the second heavyweight athlete from Shakhty, Vasily Alekseev. He lifted 625 kg. The world's strongest man also broke world records in the snatch and clean and jerk — 222 and 229.5 kg. S. Batishchevs took second place in the triathlon — 575 kg, and G. Ryabokons — third place — 550 kg.
Riga's dynamic Artūrs Sliede showed a good performance. He lifted 542.5 kg in the triathlon, improving his previous republican record by 2.5 kg. Sliede took fourth place.
The Soviet weightlifters' record this year is truly excellent. They have done a total of 65 times
corrections to the world record list.
