10.06.1966 (Padomju Jaunatne)
One of the first, most extensive and most solemn athletics events of the season has ended — the cups donated by the Riga City Executive Committee have found their owners, the winners with the cups in the uncrowned disciplines have been determined. Two of the six awards, having ended up in the same hands for the third time, have stopped traveling. One will be kept in Lithuania by Keskitis Orients, the other — in Riga by the European champion, USSR champion and record holder, Merited Master of Sports Jānis Lūsis. In the competition, Jānis's only and, from the audience's point of view, rather modest throw over the 80 m line (81.42) brought victory. His other competitors from the galaxy of the best javelin throwers in our country did not reach the extreme limit of the eighth decade: V. Aksyonovs — 79.98 m, M. Pāma — 78.44 m, H. Bāde (GDR) — 75.94 m, Lithuanians B. Buroks (75.04) and J. Mazura (73.84). J. Doniņš remained even below 70 meters (69.94) and in 8th place.

The men's shot putters competed in only four. The guest from the GDR, Dieters Proliuss (16.95 m), beat our republican champion Arturs Sliede (16.31 m) . In 3rd place was also the representative of Latvia, Aļģis Kalinausks —16.16 m.
