In Jelgava, the Daugava National Sports Hall  hosted the Latvian Cup in the bench press powerlifting discipline for the fifth time, with the participation of strongmen from Riga, Kuldīga, Talsi, Liepāja, Dobele, Madona, Jēkabpils, Alūksne, Tukums, Jelgava and guests from the Lithuanian city of Kuršenas.

The absolute best result of 205 kg was achieved by junior Rinalds Dimiņš (Jelgava club Apollons). Several national records were also achieved for men, juniors and seniors. One of the tournament winners, Aleksandrs Radzevičs from Jelgava, will start at the world championships in this discipline in the Canadian city of Edmonton.

The 205 kg set by Rinalds Dimiņš, a student of the Latvian University of Agriculture and Rural Development (LAU) and a scholarship holder of Kārlis Ulmanis, is not only a new national record for adults, but also a high-class international result. We must commend the grandmaster Artūrs Sliede, who, by lifting a 130 kg bar, achieved a new Latvian senior record in the heavyweight competition.  The same was true for Aleksandrs Smelovs from Jelgava (up to 82.5 kg) - 145 kg. In turn, the junior record was broken by Andris Ritenieks (60 kg), a member of the Kuldīga National Guard, who lifted a 101 kg bar. 

When determining the absolute champions, calculations according to the new Wilks table are now taken into account. Three "absolutists" in the men's competition: Rinalds Dimiņš 131.01, Huseins Eldarovs 121.94, Aleksandrs Radzevičs 119.72. In the junior (under 23) competition, the second title went to Dimiņš, in the youth (under 18) category, the best was Armens Isakhanovs (Apollons) - 150 kg, in the senior category - Viktors Pevko from Liepaja - 180 kg, in the women's category, Žanna Korosteļova from Riga 70 kg.
