Yesterday, the 15th Spartak Youth Games of the Republic of Latvia opened at the Dinamo Stadium in Riga. After the speech of the Deputy Minister of Education B. Gruduls, the flag of the competition was raised by the winners of last year's Spartak Youth Games - representatives of the Moscow region. The competition was severely hampered by rain.

In the morning athletics competition, the high jump results were encouraging. Eihmane (Ogre) won with a first-class result (1.55 m). Brengule (Valka), Taškina (Cēsis) and Ringa (Moskavas r.) reached 1.50 m. 15 participants jumped 1.45 m (2nd sports class).

Starting out of competition, ARTURS SLIEDE ACHIEVED A NEW REPUBLIC YOUTH RECORD IN 6 KG SHOT PUT - 16.56 M . In the 100 m race, E. Švāns (Moskavas r.) won the final with 11.5 sec. An unexpected victory in this discipline was won by Saldus secondary school student A. Ašenkampe (13.1 sec.). In the discus throw, M. Maļevska (Moskavas r.) took first place with 36.58 m. In the 400 m heats, the best results were achieved by U. Varmalis (Jūramala) - 53.2 sec. and V. Zondaka (Balvi) - 1:00.5 sec. Dz. Gailis (Moskavas r.) successfully starts in the 800 m race.
