Athletes Performed Productively

The Riga City Athletics Championships recently concluded, where the RPI Team also competed. It was difficult to assemble a team, because the competition took place in the first days of September, when many students had not yet arrived and the first-year students were going to help with the harvest in the fields. Thanks to the responsiveness of the deans, the team was assembled and the team fought admirably. We won 2nd place in the team ranking, beating all universities, but losing to the largest sports club in our republic, VEF, by one point.

Shot putter A. Sliede started the season well, but illness temporarily knocked him out of the training rhythm. In the spring stage, Arturs improved his record to 16.56 m. At the Riga Masters, the shot put again began to fly over the 16 m line and he gave the RPI team valuable scoring points.

In the autumn period, traditional competitions for first-year faculty teams and the season ends with a multi-class race, which will take place in mid-October. On September 27th and 28th, the autumn cross-country race will take place in Šmerli, where the «Young Engineer» Cup will be won. The start is beeping. 17. See you in the cross-country race!
