First Records at the School Spartakiad

The first to enter the opening parade of the Soviet Latvian School Youth Spartakiad yesterday at the Dinamo stadium were the young gymnasts from the Proletarije district of our city. At the head of the white-clad column, they carried the traveling flag presented by the republic's Ministry of Education, which the district won in last year's Spartakiad competitions.

The new athletes were addressed and congratulated by the Deputy Minister of Education B. Andriksons and the Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Republic SBOS ​​B. Letins. After the ceremonial flag-raising, student teams from 36 districts of the republic marched past the stands in the order of their placement in the last sparlakiad: Proletaris District, Liepaja City, Maskavas District, Lenin District, Daugavpils City, etc.

Immediately after the parade, the track and field competition begins at the stadium. 548 participants! There has never been such a number before. Good results do not have to wait long. The representative of the Riga district - Baldone secondary school graduate Kārlis Einis covers the distance in 10.8 seconds in the 100m final race. This is a new youth record and a first-class sports result. I. Eihmane wins 1st place for the Ogre district, who covers 1.50 m in the high jump. Representatives of the Proletārieši district also compete successfully. 2. Secondary school graduate Arturs Sliede wins the shot put with 15.71 m . 11. Secondary school student Juris Knīsis covers the 400-meter distance in 51.2 seconds. This is a new republican record for the boys' group. The victory for the young women in this distance is won by Virgīnija Zondaka (Balvi) - 59.1 sec. The representatives of the Proletārišu district won a double victory in the discus throw - Vija Zariņa, a graduate of secondary school No. 49 (41.91 m) and Ināra Miške, a graduate of secondary school No. 11. For the Lenin district, the first place in the 100 m race was won by Aina Tomberga, a graduate of secondary school No. 5 - 12.4 sec. The representative of the Moscow district - Dzintars Gailis, a student of secondary school No. 50, reached 6.72 m in the long jump. 

Today, the Spartakiad competitions continue in 13 sports.
