Yesterday, the Riga Athletics Championships started at the Dinamo Stadium. Unfortunately, several of our leaders of sports clubs and physical education groups are currently in the mood for summer vacation. We did not see any representatives of RER, RVR, and RMI among the participants, only a few participants were from the large collectives of the apparatus industry and the Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers.
However, there were several good results in the competition, which were provided by the republican national team members. Young engineer Eduards Liepiņš achieved 4.50 m in pole vault and attempted a new record height (4.55), but this time unsuccessfully. With each competition, Valdis Ceriņš got closer to the republican record in shot put, this time he missed by 14 centimeters (16.88). After a longer break, Arturs Sliede also started, who in the meantime had become the republican champion in weightlifting. He reached 15.92 m .
