On July 11, at 6 p.m., marching music sounds at the Dinamo stadium, and participants in the opening ceremony of the school youth Spartakiad enter the stadium's runway. Behind the columns of the flags of the USSR, Soviet Latvia and other united republics, the first to march are the representatives of the Riga Proletarian District School Youth, dressed in white tracksuits. At the head of their column, they carry the Traveling Flag presented by the Ministry of Education. It was won last year. The flag is held in firm hands by the youth record holder in shot put, a graduate of Riga Secondary School No. 2 Arturs Sliede, who has won a silver medal for excellent academic performance, exemplary behavior and active participation in public work.  Track and field athletes Maija Balcerbula, a student of Riga Secondary School No. 11, and Vija Zariņa, a graduate of Secondary School No. 49, are marching alongside. The column stops behind the column on the football field. There are 36 in total. Only Dagda district is missing, but the people of Krustpils do not have a team representative. The teams are marching in the order in which they won places in the last Spartakiad - Proletārišu district, Liepāja, Maskavas, Lenin districts, Daugavpils, Jelgava, etc. At the very end is Viļāni district, which did not attend last year's Spartakiad.

Deputy Minister of Education A. Andersons, opening the Spartakiad, points out in his speech that these competitions are a report to the Party and the Government on the physical education work carried out at school. School youth must defend the honor of our republic in August at the All-Union Spartakiad of School Youth in Baku and prepare for the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in 1963.

On behalf of the Presidium of the Council of the Union of Sports Associations and Organizations, Deputy Chairman V. Lētiņš congratulates the young bodybuilders.

As soon as the last column of parade participants leaves the square, the athletics competition begins.
