Riga 6th Spartakiad Winners in Athletics

The day before yesterday, the 6th Riga School Youth Spartakiad opened at the Daugava Central Stadium. The young athletes were addressed by the Secretary of the Riga City Committee of the Latvian Communist Party B. Himeireihs and the Secretary of the Riga City Committee of the Komsomol B. Kārkliņš.

Teams from Moscow, Proletarii and Lenin districts are participating in the athletics competitions. Vilnis Korņejevs, who has just returned from the international competitions in Tallinn, achieved the 1st sports class result in the long jump for youth (7.01 m). There are also good results in several other disciplines, which shows that the Riga students are preparing for the Latvian SSR School Youth Spartakiad.

For boys: Heinrlbs Bogdanovs won the 100 m race — 12.0 (11.8). 400 m — Aivars Sprlņģts — 58.2. Alvis Zukovskls in the high jump — 1.65 ( Juris Sliede also  did 1.65), Imants Cerjaks in the shot put (5 kg) — 11.51. Leonids Lācis in the hammer throw — 38.07, Aivars Neimanis in the triathlon — 1595 points. Boriss Semjonovs in the long jump — 5.93. Juris Blgells in the 800 m race — 2:13.6 and Aivars Neimanis in the discus throw (1.5 kg) — 38.42.

For youth: in the 100 m run Juris Biršs — 13.3. in the 400 m run Juris Knīsis — 52.6, in the high jump Jānis Broks — 1.60 (Aivars ilarjo also did 1.60); in the shot put (6 kg) Arturs Sliede  — 15.78, in the hammer throw Kārlis Gerliņš — 46.20, in the 5 km walk Imants Grims — 26:40.8. in the 800 m run Imants Gailītis — 2:07.7. in the discus throw (1.5 kg) Jānis Žogots — 47.72. in the javelin throw Dzintars Gailis — 56.79 m in the 110 m hurdles Arvīds Leščinskis — 15.2.
