Riga Polytechnic Institute Track and Field Athletes Win First Place

The competition began with the 110 m hurdles, where Rubens (LLA) easily won. In the 100 m race, the fastest men were Chate (RPI) with a time of 11.6, and the women were Pērkone (RMI) with a time of 12.9 sec. 

In the 400 m race, the men's race was won by RPI student Rikards (52.1 sec.), and the women's race by Rudīte from LVU (1 min. 3.3 sec.). In the 800 m race, Plezers (RPI) proved to be superior. He completed the distance in 2 min., leaving LLA student Dreimani in second place. A. Toms won the 1500 and 3000 m races. 

The best track and field athlete of the republic, Master of Sports Renāte Lāce (RPI) was the best in the long jump (5.74 m) and the hurdles (11.9 sec.).  The shot put was won by the republic's youth record holder Artūrs Sliede (14.77 m)  and LVU athlete Sisina (12.20 m).

LLA student Briedis won first place in the javelin throw (55.85 m) and discus throw (41.30 m). Pūce (RPI) came in second place. In the men's high jump with a first-class result of 1.90 m, G. Strautmanis (RMI) won, but in the women's high jump, first and second places were shared by Mence (RPI) and Valbe (LLA) with equal results of 1.35 m. 

RPI track and field athlete Edvīns Upacieris tried to break the republican record in pole vault, but failed. He cleared a height of 4.10 m. E. Upacieris also won the long jump (6.53 m).

In the triple jump, LVU athlete Olegs Aksenovs remained unbeaten. His result was 13.83 m.

In the women's discus throw with a result of 37.53 m, Briede (RPI) won, and in the hammer throw, RPI student Konoševics (49.07 m). In the 5000 m walk, the republic's youth champion B. Vucēns won a convincing victory. His time was 22 min. 36.7 sec. 

The competition ended with the 4X100 meter relay. Thanks to E. Niedra's excellent sprint, LLA athletes won first place among the men's teams. RPI runners also remained unbeaten. 

In the team ranking, Riga Polytechnic Institute won first place; LLA came in 2nd place; LVU came in 3rd; RMI came in 4th.
