Spodra Riekstiņa Throws the Shot - 12.83 m!

The school youth track and field test competitions in Tukums were full of intense moments of competition. There were no clear winners in almost any discipline. There were also some good achievements.

When the shot put by Kuldīga high school student Spodra Riekstlņa fell close to the 13-meter line, spectators and judges thought that the meter marks in the shot put sector were not marked correctly. No other young woman from our country had ever thrown a shot that far. And yet the marks and the weight of the shot were correct. Riekstilņa set a new republican record for young women - 12.83 cm. The record of 12.61 m, which had not been achieved for five years, by Galina Nozdračeva, was broken. At the same time, this is also the best achievement in the girls' group, because Spodra was born on November 24, 1944. A great achievement! The large crowd of spectators enthusiastically congratulated the new record holder for this. As you can see, Anna Logina is growing a worthy successor.

Another pleasant surprise was provided by Arturs Sliede in the 5 kg shot put. 15.87 m is a new republican best achievement in the boys' group.  His result in the 6 kg shot put (14.29 m) is also good.  (As is known, from now on, young people will throw a 6 kg shot put in the All-Union competitions.) 

In the javelin throw for the first time this year, Saulīte, Šiliņa and Lapinska met in the same competition for the first time. Who will win? The dynamite Šiliņa was more successful this time with a result of 39.08 m. Also in the youth competition, Grīnbergs (Talsi) and Rūsiņš (Birži) faced serious opponents - Dz. Gailis (Rīga) and J. Vāveritis (Baldone). In the high jump for the youth, Tatjana Taškina from Cēsis (born in 1944) secured herself a place in the school team with a result of 1.50 m, but in the youth competition, Asaris (Bauska) and Lapiņš (Riga) had to admit the superiority of Ratnieks from Tukums. It should be noted that the «Daugava» stadium in Tukums is in a rather dilapidated state, the results here are nothing to brag about. The sectors of high jump, long jump, discus throw and javelin throw resembled plows after the first attempts. The competition also included a test at the Tukums Athletics

for the work of the judges. This time it should be assessed as satisfactory.
